DCAC Recording Studio Training

This Leadership program offers high school aged students with an interest in music an opportunity to learn, in a hands-on environment about music production. Upon completion of the Recording Studio Training participants will be able to engineer audio recordings from start to song mastering.

Trained participants will then be offered opportunities to produce/engineer music recording both on-site and off-site as part of the Leadership program.

Audio production training is also provide to members of the community at-large and current BGC members.

Introduction to audio recording in the digital world

  • Review of Policy and Procedures Manual
  • Studio tour
  • Introduction the equipment inventory

MODULE TWO - 2 Hrs.

Introduction the live music recording

  • Microphone placement and best practices
  • Students learn how to up microphones for drums, amps, vocals, piano and other acoustic instruments.
  • Students learn how to up microphones for drums, amps, vocals, piano and other acoustic instruments.
  • Overview of headphone set up.
  • Overview of signal path.

MODULE THREE - 2 Hrs.

Introduction to recording software

  • Bringing signals into the console.
  • Signal path Master Class.
  • Signal flow is emphasized so students gain a deeper understanding that will help them quickly adapt to other gear and software they'll encounter.
  • Equalization, compression, limiting, delay and reverb are topics for covered in Module # 3 as students ramp up their initial signal processing skills.

MODULE FOUR - 3 Hrs.

Full recording workshop

  • Mentor workshops with include working on projects as an assistant
  • Complete recording set-up including headphones for performers.

  • Introduction to live remote recording inventory

  • Real song mixing exercise including signal processing
  • Students learn to prepare finished mixes for various distribution paths.
