DREAM IT BE IT VIRTUAL CONFERENCE

The Dream It Be It virtual youth conference is open to all high school students across Canada. The three-day free virtual conference on April 23rd, 24th, 25th connects high school youth with various industry professionals to provide valuable career insight, along with mental health and empowerment strategies and how-to guides to help students take on any challenge. DREAM IT BE IT DAY 1 - APRIL 23rd, 2021

Day one of the conference highlights careers in the fields of Health Sciences with two graduate students from Western Univerisity talking about their education experiences and what careers are offered through these unique opportunities. As well as the field of Education with Anna Zuber from Western University’s own Althouse College who will dive into what it means to be an educator, what careers you obtain from this and how to boost your application to really stand out!

As well, join us for “Putting the ‘We’ Back in Wellness”, where we’ll have industry experts talk about youth mental health and how to best support yourself during these unpredictable times. This session will provide all participants with tips, tricks and information about the various community support available to those in need!

Last but certainly not least, finish off the conference day with our session, “Smashing Through The Glass Ceiling: Why Women Should Lead”. This session features members from the Coalition for Gender Equality who will discuss various topics including, stigmatizing gendered stereotypes, workplace discrepancies and how to support everyone to succeed in all environments!

Day two of the conference highlights careers in the field of Culinary Arts, Travel and Tourism! Hear from Fanshawe College’s professor of Travel and Tourism, Julie Elliott and staff where they will dive into the various diplomas offered and what these exciting programs can lead you to. As well, Hear from Western University’s Engineering program manager Joanne Moniz. Joanne and her student representatives will explore the University’s engineering programs, what careers this field can offer you, and the Western engineering student experience!

 

As well, help yourself obtain skills to achieve a successful future! Learn tips and tricks to finding meaningful employment and how to prepare for a successful interview. Featuring Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU)’s Career Services team that will help you understand the inner workings of what job ready skills will help you stand out. We’ll be talking about skills such as time management and overcoming procrastination which are vital to staying employed. We’ll also discuss how to network in the field and how to identify resources.

 

Join in on a Q&A session and a workshop about S.M.A.R.T. Goals. Learn how to craft, refine and enact goals that will help you succeed!

 

Lastly, join us for Rising Above Obstacles: Turning Failure into Success Featuring Arielle Kayabaga, Leroy Jenkins, and many more. This session will feature a panel of keynote speakers that will discuss different challenges they have faced in their lives and how they used this experience to empower themselves to succeed.

Day Three of the conference highlights careers in the field of Technology and Game Design! Hear from Fanshawe’s School of Digital and Performing arts team as they walk you through the in’s and out of how their program prepares you for an exciting career in this industry. As well, join us to hear from Petty Officer Second Class Marryatt to hear all about the different educational, career and experiences the Canadian National Defense Forces can offer you!

 

As well, Interested in learning more about the Indigenous perspective? This session features an Indigenous panel who will discuss this community’s shared experiences. THe session features our community’s own special guest Kuwahsanaha:wi! Kuwahsanaha:wi is an advocate, coach and mentor for Indigenous youth and women.

 

Lastly, are you part of the LGBTQ+ community or looking to become an ally? Join our session “LGBTQ+ Advocacy & Struggles”, that will focus on the social justice issues many youth face in today’s current climate. This topic will also feature individuals who can share their stories and provide insight into how to be an ally to those who need help.
